Dear Book Lovers,

I am super excited about our new on-line book club. While it would be nice to meet and talk about the books over a cup of hot chocolate - however the tyranny of distance and our busy lives means that this should be a good alternative way to talk about books.

You should find this Wiki easy to use. I have the admin rights but you can write on any of the 'pages' simply by pressing the 'edit' button on the top right hand corner. Make sure that you press save when you have finished. If you have any questions about how to use the technology do not hesitate to email me. It would be awful for you not to feel that you can participate because you are not sure how to do things. I am not IT expert but I can use the basic features of the Wiki so I should be able to help you.

To get to know each other I thought that it would be a good idea for everyone to upload a photo of themselves and to write some things about themselves. I have posted some questions for everyone to answer to take the pressure off writing about yourself! Go to the 'member profile' section to do this.

We will choose the books in the following way - one person (listed below) will nominate three books and everyone will vote for which of those three books they would like to read. Books can be fiction or non-fiction, modern or classics. If you find that you have read all three books that have been nominated (super book nerd!), send me an email and I will arrange for some new books to be nominated. Nominating and voting for books is very easy and can be done via the 'book nomination' section.

I hope that the following time frames will work for everyone:
- after the book has been chosen there will be two weeks to buy the book
- there will be six weeks to read the book
- there will be two weeks to discuss the book

I will set up a separate 'page' for each of the books that we are reading. If you have nominate the books it would be great if you could write up a few questions to get the discussion going. Everyone should, in the first instance, write their overall feeling/ reflections about the book and then answer the set questions. As book clubs work best as a discussion it would be great if everyone could also post comments/ ideas/ questions about the post that others have put up.

The following is a list of the time frames for reading and discussing the books and who will be nominating the books when. I will add to these dates as we get further down the track.
